Countless studies have shown that the best way communities can tackle climate change on their doorstep is by planting trees. Trees for Derby is a community charity committed to planting 250,000 trees in Derby – that’s one for every Derby resident!
Not only does tree planting offset our carbon emissions, but it has the added benefit of regenerating our urban landscape, cleaning our air and improving our wellbeing.
Schemes like Manchester’s City of Trees have shown how businesses and residents can take urban regeneration into their own hands and yield incredible results and now we want the same for our city. Derby, with its strong heritage of industry, engineering and innovation, is the perfect city for such a scheme, and we think that by planting trees we can not only reinvigorate our city but also make Derby a UK leader in green regeneration.
Trees For Derby’s primary role is as a facilitator between landowners and tree fund access. We talk to businesses, identify planting sites and orchestrate tree planting events on private and public land. Having only been going a few months we already have our first planting organised, lopping 1,000 trees off our goal in partnership with the Woodland Trust.
While we have a huge wealth of tree-planting expertise in-house, we are still a small community charity looking for help from all sectors. If you think you could help us reach our goal, whether you’re a marketeer, an accountant, a project manager, a planning expert, a fundraising fiend – whoever you are, we’d love to hear from you!
