2020 Trees Now Ordered!

We now ordered all of our 2020 tree packs from the Woodland Trust. We plant to plant these trees at the start of the planting season in November and December, weather and COVID permitting!

We have identified a number of suitable planting sites for us to target in this early part of the planting window, as you will see below we are solidifying and repairing a number of last year’s sites to ensure the new trees there are really able to make an impact to the sites. There is is still plenty of time for us to sort out 2021 Trees to be planted in January through to March so this is only the beginning.

Tree Plantings:

Chaddesden Park (1260 trees),
Fullen’s Lock, Shelton Lock (840 trees),
Stoodley Pike and Nether Park Close, Allestree (1260 trees),
Haven Baulk Lane Park, Littleover (300 trees),
Boulton Lane Rec, Alvaston (500 trees),
Mackworth Fields (500 trees).

We also intend to plant another 1800 trees at Roe Farm Park, Chaddesden, funded by Trees for Cities. This will bring the current running total for this season up to nearly 6500 trees! Higher already than our first season’s tree total of 6170 as you can see on our homepage.

In addition to these beautiful green leaved carbon capture machines we are hoping to have obtained a selection of fruit trees ready for orchard planting by the end of the Autumn. These will be funded through the generous donations of our community throughout last year for which we remain astounded and humbled, any further donations will continue to fund our activities going forward including keeping all these trees alive!

To turn these numbers into reality we are going to need a strong volunteer force, so watch our website and email regularly as we fix dates for planting events in November and come and join us. Our events this year will take place under strict COVID compliance to ensure they remain a safe space for all of our community. Sign up now on our mailing list if you haven’t done so already.

With all our love,

Trees for Derby
